Empathy-led From Crisis to a Clean Slate
The Client
A female business owner operating a pizza shop with her husband, who reached out to SBR Assist during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
The Situation
When her husband was struck by a sudden illness and forced out of work, the financial pressure on the family became overwhelming. The business had accumulated a significant tax debt it could no longer service, and the client was left trying to navigate a highly stressful and complex situation without a clear direction forward.
The Challenge
The client needed more than just technical advice. She needed someone to coordinate the moving parts — financial, legal, insolvency, and funding — and help bring the right professionals together to create a workable outcome.
The Solution
SBR Assist acted in a strategic project management and coordination role, helping guide the client through each stage of the process and ensuring the right specialists were engaged at the right time.
Key steps included:
- Conducting an initial assessment of the client’s overall financial position and immediate pressures
- • Coordinating with insolvency professionals to explore and identify the most appropriate pathway for the business circumstances
- • Facilitating planning discussions between the client and relevant stakeholders to establish a practical roadmap forward
- Assisting in the coordination of a funding solution through Fundsnational, which structured a private funding facility of $204,000 to consolidate and clear liabilities, including:
- Existing private loan: $135,000 - Liquidation & administration costs: $45,000 - Personal tax debt: $24,000
- Supporting communication and coordination throughout the liquidation and transition process to help reduce stress and provide clarity for the client
The Outcome
Following the completion of the liquidation process, the client and her husband transitioned into stable PAYG employment. With their affairs stabilised and liabilities addressed, Fundsnational was subsequently able to refinance their mortgage into a standard residential facility at a competitive rate. The result was a manageable long-term repayment structure, improved financial stability, and the opportunity for the family to move forward with confidence. What began as a period of crisis ultimately became the foundation for a fresh start.
